Born in Birmingham, England in 1998 as a 3rd generation British-Indian of Punjabi-Sikh heritage, Dhiraj first picked up the guitar aged 11 at his local secondary school in Handsworth taking guitar lessons with Midlands-based jazz guitarist Paul Foad.
Piano lessons with Steven Lloyd-Gonzalez soon followed, alongside further music activity via the Birmingham Symphony Hall Jazzlines talent development programme and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire junior department.
Dhiraj soon moved down to London to continue his music studies on scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he completed his BMus Honours degree in 2025 having studied with some of Britain’s leading jazz musicians and educators.
Since being based in the capital, Dhiraj has performed at leading venues including the Barbican Centre, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, Silk Street Concert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Stoller Concert Hall, The Lyric Theatre, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Vortex, Karamel, Pizza Express Dean Street and music festivals including EFG London Jazz, Bratislava Jazz, Cheltenham Jazz, We Out Here and Chelsea Arts Festival.
